It is true - the Scots really do know how to enjoy a party. 2009 is packed with events including the well-established Highland Games circuit, Edinburgh's International Festivals and, of course, nationwide Hogmanay revelry. Check out whisky festivals in Islay and Speyside and food festivals in Mull, Loch Lomond, Shetland and Grampian. Glasgow comes alive to the sound of pipes with the Piping Live and the World Pipe Band Championships in August.
